Your first step to starting a great day is a fresh start with a proper shave, once you get that out of the way, looking fresh and attractive is on your side.

Getting a proper shave is not as easy as you thought, according to a dermatologist, is not about which tools you use, it is more about your shaving techniques and preparations.

In this article, I am going to give you 13 shaving tips for men which you can apply to your daily shaving routine to improve how fresh you look after shaving, and also how to prevent redness, razor bump, and whiteheads.

Shaving Tools

Are you ready to say bye-bye to razor bumps, ingrown hairs, nicks, cuts, and razor burn? If yes let’s get started.

1. Prepare Your Face Properly

Always prepare your face properly before you start shaving, the best way to do this is to shave after taking a bath, or you can hydrate your face with warm water for up to 3 minutes before you start shaving.

The warm water is going to soften the hair on your face, making it easier to shave with little effort, which helps in reducing redness and cuts.

2. Conditioner is a Substitute of Shave Gel

In case you got caught without shave gel, you have nothing to worry about as long as you have a conditioner, which can serve as a perfect substitute for a shave gel.

Simply apply the conditioner on your face the same way you use to apply a shave gel, and you are good to go.

3. Use a Multi-Blade Razor

For better results, always use a multi-blade razor, but take note, more blades don’t equal a better shave.

You need to try out different multi blade razors to find the right one for your skin type and the type of hair on your skin.

I personally try out a double blade, 3 blades, and 6 blades razor before I figure out the 3 blades is the perfect one for me.

Go ahead and try out different razors and find the one best for you.

4. Don’t Use Force

Guys if you prepare your face properly and use the right shaving gel or conditioner you don’t need to apply force when shaving your face.

All you need to have the perfect shave is a light and gentle stroke and let the razor do the rest, the goal is to shave the hair not turn your face blood red.

5. More Blades Doesn’t Mean Better Shave

Although using a multi-blade razor gives better shaving it doesn’t mean the more blades you have the better.

Usually, a single-blade razor doesn’t give a clean shave, therefore, try out different multi-blade razors and figure out the one you feel more comfortable with.

6. Rinse Your Blade Frequently

Rinse your blade frequently when shaving, it washes away the shave gel and hair off the blade, giving you a clean blade to continue.

You will notice what a great change rinsing your blade makes.

7. Never Shave the Same Spot Twice

Never shave the same spot twice or more to avoid having shaving burn, excessive redness, and irritation.

Once you shave the cream off do not run the razor again on that spot, if you need to shave the spot again you need to wash your face first and reapply the shaving cream then shave again.

8. Shave Against the Grain for Extra Closeness

Shaving against the grain helps in clearing the areas that require extra focus, try a few strokes against the grain to deliver an extra closeness.

9. Use Single Blade for Precision

When you cleared most of the unwanted hair off your face is time to trim the hard-to-reach areas.

For extra cleanness use a single blade razor to trim areas that require extra precision, single blade reach areas that double blade couldn’t.

10. Rinse Face with Cold Water

When you finally have a clean shave rinse your face with cold water to tighten your skin and seal your pores to make your skin feel soft and smooth.

Cold water also helps in reducing redness and irritation.

11. Wipe Away Excess Cream and Hair

After you rinse your face with cold water, use a cotton pad and toner to wipe away excess cream and hair off your face.

This help you looks clean and gives you that feeling of being fresh and handsome.

12. Use the Right After Shave for Your Skin

If you have sensitive skin avoid using an alcohol-based aftershave, instead use a moisturizing gel to keep your skin healthy.

And also, if you have dry skin, moisturizing aftershave will be the best choice for you.

13. Store Away Your Blade Properly

Lastly, dry your blade optimally with a towel and store it away in an upright position away from moisture to help extend the life of your blade.
